Length 1 hour
The Tap/Jazz class offered at Charlotte Klein Dance Centers is exactly how it sounds – this class is a combination of tap and jazz. Unlike our other introductory dance classes, this class does not focus on ballet movements or terminology. Instead, the dancers will have 30 minutes of tap, working on musicality, rhythm, articulation of sounds and terminology; and 30 minutes of jazz, where they will begin stretching and learning the basics of jazz dance.
Your child will further their exploration and understanding of the movement patterns in tap, adding in hops, shuffles and even brush steps. Dancers will learn how to make decisive sound and rhythm with the feet by kicking the leg out, brushing the ball of the foot on the ground, and stepping to the outstretched foot.
In the jazz portion of class, our dancers begin to understand how proper stretching and flexibility will greatly improve their dancing abilities. If you’ve attended a ballet or a theatrical show, you may have noticed how these performers seem to effortlessly twist and lift their legs, arms and back through various movements. Our instructors will teach dancers in this class the importance of maintaining flexibility so they can safely perform complex leg lifts, split jumps or barrel rolls later in their training.
You will get to see your child’s progress and developed tap and jazz dance skills, as this class performs in our annual recital.
