- Owned and operated own dance studio in Auburn, MA – Sue Scheffler’s Dance Studio, for 15 years. Upon retiring to raise two small children, Sue was comforted knowing her students would be in the capable hands of her two top students: Lucy Johnson Fitzgerald and Sally Mc Dermott, both of whom are still in business. Several of Sue’s students went on to open their own studios in MA
- In the early years, Sue studied dance under Cathy Taylor, eventually becoming her assistant. Sue studied ballet under Marlene Francis, where she met classmate Christine Carlson, and tap under Walter Fields
- Sue credits her style of teaching ballet to Eleanor Thompson, the teacher’s teacher
- Sue utilized her love of dance teaching in various ways – she taught Creative Movement at Our Lady of Mercy Center for Exceptional Children, choreographed and provided piano accompaniment for the musical, South Pacific at Anna Maria College, Paxton, MA
- Sue met Charlotte Klein through her memberships in the Worcester Ballet Society, the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston, and Dance Masters of New England
When the Westborough CKDC opened, Charlotte invited Sue to teach there. This began Sue’s ten year career at CKDC where she taught all ages and levels, producing several award – winning numbers in DMA - Sue was certified to teach by DMA and remained active for many years
- Sue’s passion is volunteer work, using her love of dance and receiving great joy watching her students entertain in Senior Centers, Skilled Nursing facilities and town parades
- Sue was co – chair of the Parent Organization at Summit Montessori School where she taught Creative Movement after school. Her work there earned her the Maria Montessori Award for Excellence in Volunteerism
- Sue has taught at Putnam Dance Center and Dance Expressions, teaching ballet and tap for all age levels including Adult Ballet and Adult Jazz and Fitness
- For ten years Sue was the fulltime Health and Recreation Director at Southgate at Shrewsbury where she spread her love of dance producing variety shows performed by seniors-the average age of her students was 82 and Sue had the pleasure of teaching many classes including tap – standing and seated – as well as fitness classes and water exercise
- Sue has a passion for Health and Fitness. This led to a directorship at Worcester Athletic Club for ten years – Sue has earned several certifications such as: Aerobics, Water Exercise, Nutrition, Personal Training and many more. This led to her creating and developing a unique Circuit Training and Nutrition for Dancers program which she brings to studios throughout the state.
- Sue graduated from Anna Maria University with a degree in Education and English. She earned her Master’s degree from Worcester State University – 23 years out of college – in Education with a concentration in Health. Sue is also a Certified Health Education Specialist
- Sue was also privileged to teach Miss Rachel her first Tap solo when Rachel was a just a little girl
- Sue is thrilled to come full circle in her dance career being back at CKDC with old friends Christine and Ann – Marie and of course, Rachel
